This is a full-time permanent position based in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
CBC Cape Breton is looking for a video journalist to join our team. You’re innovative and will try new things, workflows, and story treatments that are informative and shareable. You help our audience make sense of the day and are flexible and adaptable to the rapidly changing media landscape. You will help guide our video strategy, emphasizing using video to reach and engage younger audiences.
In this role, you will work out of our Sydney newsroom, operating under the direction of the Cape Breton senior producer and collaborating closely with our visual storytelling producers and assignment desk in Halifax. You will research, gather, package, and present stories for digital, radio, and TV, ensuring all journalistic standards are met and stories are fair, balanced, accurate, and resonate with the communities we serve.
This job is for you if you thrive under pressure, believe strongly in accountability journalism, and have a proven track record of digging up information and telling original and visually compelling stories.
Local news and community storytelling are more important than ever. You will have a deep understanding of Cape Breton and understand the importance of reflecting all of our communities in our content. You live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
You know the people, communities, and culture of Cape Breton. You will be a champion for innovative visual storytelling content, advocating for the creative use of video, still images, graphics, and other visual storytelling techniques.
