The Pacific Rim School District is seeking a Vice Principal for Tsumaas Elementary School in Port Alberni. The ideal candidate will have a valid BC teaching certificate, a Master's Degree, and experience in elementary education. Responsibilities include fostering community relations and enhancing student achievement through effective instructional practices.
The School District
The Pacific Rim School District covers much of Central Vancouver Island's rugged, picturesque West Coast and serves a regional population of approximately 31,000 residents in the communities of Port Alberni, Tofino, Ucluelet, Bamfield, and other remote areas. The schools are situated on the traditional territories of the Hahoulthees of the Caaat Hupaasath Tlaoqui, Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ, and Huuayaht First Nations. The district respectfully acknowledges its partnership with all Nuuchahnulth Nations, other First Nations, Métis, and Inuit of British Columbia, to serve all children and youth of the Alberni-Clayoquot region.
The district is home to 4,000 students, 35% of whom are of Indigenous ancestry, across two secondary schools, eight elementary schools, and one K-9 school. It also features a successful alternative learning centre, a strong French Immersion program, a thriving international student program, and a busy continuing education department.
The School
Tsumaas Elementary School, located in the north end of Port Alberni, is a K-7 school enrolling approximately 335 students. The school offers onsite Strong Start childcare, as well as before- and after-school care programs.
The School Vice Principal
Preferred candidates will have successful formal leadership experience in elementary and/or middle school settings, strong interpersonal skills, and a proven ability to build effective school and community relations. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to improving achievement for all learners, including engaging staff in creating a professional learning community that uses research, best practices, and student data to guide instruction and develop school plans.
