Great West Lifeco is seeking a Vice President of Operational Risk and Resilience to provide strategic oversight, leadership, and direction across all non-technology operational risk types. This role is vital in establishing and maintaining risk and resilience frameworks to identify, assess, and manage operational risks globally, ensuring effective response and recovery from disruptions. The incumbent will embed operational risk and resilience frameworks across the Lifeco group, promoting a unified approach to risk mitigation and ensuring consistency and efficiency. Additionally, this role acts as the second line of defence for operational risks within our Canadian operations.

As a senior second line of defence position, this role collaborates with senior leadership, including function and business heads and Chief Operating Officers.

What You Will Do
  • Establish and lead the global operational resilience strategy to ensure organizational services withstand disruptions and enhance risk posture.
  • Coordinate first and second lines of defence on resilience initiatives, ensuring global framework implementation.
  • Develop and maintain operational risk management frameworks, methodologies, and policies for all non-technology categories.
  • Ensure effective operation of operational risk tools and methodologies.
  • Oversee non-technology operational risk and resilience strategies across Canada.
  • Monitor and report operational risks to executive risk committees.
  • Advocate for operational risk and resilience, fostering a risk-aware culture and effective defence models.
  • Analyze and report on global operational risk profiles against the enterprise risk appetite.
  • Lead and mentor a team of risk and resilience professionals, fostering continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders internally and externally, including industry forums and regulators.
What You Will Bring
  • Proven leadership in building high-performance teams and process improvement.
  • Experience in operational risk management or business operations, preferably in financial services or related industries.
  • Expertise in designing and implementing transformational initiatives within a global environment.
  • Deep understanding of operational risk frameworks, regulations, and best practices.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret large data sets and risk models.
  • Strategic thinking and effective communication skills.
  • International work experience is advantageous.
  • Relevant risk or operations qualifications.
