Qualifications

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Construction to provide executive leadership for major nuclear construction initiatives at the Chalk River site.

This is a senior leadership opportunity supporting the BWXT-led Nuclear Laboratories Partners of Canada (NLPC) contract. The successful candidate will oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale construction projects valued at up to $1 billion.

Leading multidisciplinary teams of project managers, project engineers, project controls professionals, and project support staff, you will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable nuclear, regulatory, and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

As Vice President of Construction, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership, direction, and mentorship to teams delivering major construction projects and programs.

  • Oversee the full project lifecycle, including feasibility, planning, budgeting, scheduling, execution, and project completion.

  • Lead the delivery of large-scale construction initiatives valued at $500M to $1B+.

  • Ensure projects are delivered within approved scope, schedule, budget, and contractual requirements.

  • Develop and implement effective project risk management and mitigation strategies.

  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety, quality, regulatory, nuclear security, and construction requirements.

  • Manage significant capital budgets and ensure effective resource allocation, procurement, and cost control.

  • Oversee subcontractors and contractors to ensure work is completed in accordance with project requirements.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, government organizations, and other key stakeholders.

  • Provide executive-level reporting on project milestones, financial performance, risks, and contractual compliance.

  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and project controls teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Establish and lead cross-functional teams to ensure effective integration and alignment across major projects.

  • Identify and remove barriers to successful project execution through effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Support the continued development of people, processes, tools, and organizational capabilities required to successfully deliver complex project scopes.

What You Will Bring

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or another relevant discipline.

  • A minimum of 20 years of relevant experience.

  • Significant executive or director-level leadership experience managing large teams, programs, and complex projects.

  • Extensive experience delivering large-scale construction projects valued at $500 million or more.

  • Strong and demonstrated experience delivering projects within the nuclear industry.

  • A proven track record of successfully delivering complex projects safely, on time, and within budget.

  • Extensive construction management experience, including oversight of contractors and subcontractors.

  • Strong knowledge of construction laws, codes, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Exceptional strategic planning, leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.

  • Experience managing large capital budgets and complex project portfolios.

PMP or PgMP certification is considered an asset.

Location and Security Requirements

This position is based full-time at the Chalk River site. Remote work is not available, and the successful candidate must live in or be willing to relocate to the Chalk River area.

The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain the required Canadian security clearance.

The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable requirements involving the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
