Job description

Dedicated to safeguarding the interests of two million workers and over 170,000 employers throughout the province, and managing an Accident Fund totaling $13 billion, WCB plays a pivotal role in ensuring that injured workers receive fair and timely benefits and services. WCB also supports employers by providing stable insurance rates and implementing pricing programs that promote workplace safety and effective disability management strategies.

Responsibilities
  1. Support the achievement of the organization’s mission, vision, and values and participate as a member of the Strategic Management Council (SMC).
  2. Collaborate with other members of the executive team, Board of Directors, board committees, and external service providers and partners.
  3. Define a clear, innovative vision for claims management and the provision of high-quality decision-making, ensuring compliance under the Workers’ Compensation Act.
  4. Provide inspirational leadership and clear direction to ensure efficient and quality processing and delivery of claims management, exceptional claims management training, and quality assurance.
  5. Develop innovative solutions to complex and sensitive administrative, operational, or policy issues that may significantly impact clients.
  6. Be accountable for key performance results as outlined in the corporate objectives.
  7. Review operational initiatives and resource requirements to ensure success for the WCB team and clients.
  8. Oversee the initial review of claim and premium-related issues through the DRDRB.
  9. Contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic five-year business plan and annual corporate objectives.
  10. Co-manage an overall budget of approximately $110 million and share responsibility for coverage of over two million workers in Alberta.
The Individual

Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the VP Claims & Disability Management will be an inspiring leader ensuring effective claims management delivery, representing the organization externally, building relationships with community partners, and supporting the organization’s mission, vision, and values as part of the Strategic Management Council.

The ideal candidate will have senior management experience in a complex organization and proven leadership skills. They should possess strong business acumen, advanced planning, organizing, negotiating skills, and be results-oriented. Experience in initiating and implementing change, along with problem-solving and decision-making skills, are essential. The ability to understand and address complex, multi-faceted issues is also important.
