Job description

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7am - 3pm


Summary:

Operates valve guide/seat machining centers. Performs visual and dimensional inspections at machining, including the following:


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for creating a quality product.
  • Participates in training to produce a quality product and uses preventative measures to meet customer requirements and Tenneco standards.
  • Complies with legal and other requirements to avoid injury and/or ill health to themselves and others.
  • Understands preventative measures and creates a safe environment by identifying potential emergency situations and reporting all incidents to supervisor/manager.
  • Adheres to the facility's quality, environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Reads routers and production schedules for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, and number of parts to be processed. Records information for inspection and production using various forms, logs, and computer systems.
  • Monitors product specifications using inspection equipment like micrometers, digital indicators, scales, optical comparators, etc.
  • Verifies equipment settings and controls are in conformance to specifications using established standards.
  • Starts/shuts down, monitors, and operates Machining Centers.
  • Loads and unloads parts, operates overhead hoists, and handles containers like pans, bins, baskets, and trays.
  • Distributes parts into proper machines and follows FIFO processing.
  • Checks and fills coolants and oils, disposing of filters properly.
  • Performs data entry for various reports and orders.
  • Uses SPC software to analyze and monitor scrap and nonconforming parts.
  • Reads, interprets, and follows all safety rules and regulations during operations.
  • Completes 5S responsibilities and general cleaning.
  • Troubleshoots and maintains equipment through observation and cleaning.
  • Overtime may be required as posted weekly.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/management.
  • Completes training sheets, practical, and written assessments before advancing to the next machining level.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred; minimum one year related experience or training.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals; write routine reports.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math, compute rates, and understand the metric system.

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.

Other Skills: Highly motivated, independent worker, effective team player, with above-average mechanical ability.

Physical Demands:

Requires standing, handling, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, walking, climbing. Lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustments.

Work Environment:

Exposure to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. Safety gear such as glasses and steel-toe shoes required; hearing protection recommended.
