Job description

3rd shift: Sunday-Thursday 11pm-7am



SUMMARY: Operates and adjusts valve seat insert compacting presses and furnaces. Assists with the operation of valve seat insert steam and temper furnaces, cryo units, and oil impregnation units. Performs visual and dimensional inspections at various stages of production.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Accountable for creating a quality product.
  • Participates in training to produce a quality product and uses preventative measures to meet customer requirements and Tenneco standards.
  • Complies with legal and other requirements to ensure safety and health.
  • Understands and reports potential emergency situations to maintain a safe environment.
  • Adheres to the facility's quality, environmental, health, and safety management systems.
  • Reads routers and production schedules for product specifications.
  • Follows special instructions as required.
  • Records inspection and production data using various forms, logs, and computer systems.
  • Monitors product specifications using inspection equipment such as micrometers, scales, hardness testers, etc.
  • Verifies equipment settings and controls are in conformance to specifications.
  • Starts, shuts down, monitors, and operates compacting presses.
  • Makes adjustments to press settings for weight and OAL.
  • Loads, unloads, and operates furnaces and monitors automation systems.
  • Operates overhead hoists and hand jacks for handling containers.
  • Uses statistical data to ensure product conformity and analyze scrap and nonconforming parts.
  • Distributes powder appropriately and monitors furnace temperatures and atmospheres.
  • Follows all safety rules and performs TPMs and general cleaning.
  • Overtime may be required as posted and mandated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor/management.

Level 1

  • Must complete training and assessments to progress to Level 2.

Level 2

  • Ability to perform line operator duties in VG and VSI.
  • Must complete training and assessments.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, with at least one year of related experience or training.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety and operational documents.
  • Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and understanding of the metric system.
  • Ability to apply common sense and deal with standardized problems.
  • Motivated, independent worker with above-average mechanical ability.

Physical Demands: Must regularly stand, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, walk, and climb. Must lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.


Work Environment: Frequently exposed to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. Safety gear required includes glasses, steel-toe shoes, and hearing protection.
