Job summary

Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre in Calgary is seeking a full-time Radiation Oncology RVT to join our team. This role offers the chance to work with top board-certified specialists and learn about cutting-edge veterinary medicine using a linear accelerator.

Qualifications

  • Registered Veterinary Technician in Alberta.
  • Preference given for a minimum of two years of RVT experience, ideally in emergency/referral.
  • Experience in general anesthesia and monitoring in dogs and cats.
  • Compressed work week: 5 days (Mon-Fri 8:00-16:00).
  • Ability to think critically and multitask in a fast-paced environment with challenging cases.
  • Strong time-management and excellent verbal/written communication.
  • Proficiency with calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team within the hospital.
  • Compassionate care and superior client communication.

Responsibilities

  • Manage appointments: history, exams, records, invoicing, prescriptions, discharges.
  • Prepare patients, set up equipment, anesthesia, assist with radiation therapy and CT scans.
  • Inpatient care: treatments, diagnostics, monitoring critically ill patients.
  • Plan, organize and manage daily flow of services, clients and treatments.
  • Communicate with clients and referring hospitals regularly.
  • Surgery on-call: opportunity to join and enhance anesthesia skills.

Location: Calgary, AB

Department: Radiation Therapy

Western Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Centre is seeking a full-time Radiation Oncology RVT to join our team. This position provides an opportunity to work with top board-certified specialists and the ability to learn about cutting-edge veterinary medicine. We are the only private veterinary hospital in Canada with a linear accelerator; this has revolutionized our treatment options provided by our Cancer Centre.

Responsibilities
  • Manage appointments: History taking, physical examination, medical record keeping, invoicing, prescriptions, patient discharges, etc.
  • Procedures: Preparation of patients, setting up equipment, performing and monitoring anesthesia, assisting with radiation therapy, CT scans and other diagnostic imaging.
  • Inpatient care: Facilitating treatments, diagnostic work-up and monitoring of critically ill hospitalized patients
  • Plan, organize, and manage the daily flow of services, clients and patient treatments
  • Communicating with clients and referring hospitals on a regular basis
  • Surgery on-call: Opportunity to join the Surgery on-call and further develop and enhance your anesthesia skills
  • Drive the VCA Canada experience and ensure our patients receive the highest quality care
Qualifications
  • Registered Veterinary Technician in Alberta

  • Experience in providing general anesthesia and monitoring in dogs and cats
  • Schedule is a compressed work week - 5 days per week (Monday-Friday 8 am-4 pm)
  • Ability to think critically and multi-task while working in a fast-paced, stimulating environment with challenging cases
  • Exceptional time-management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in performing calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Ability to work well with others in a hospital that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach among the specialty services
