Maritime Veterinary Emergency + Specialty Centre (MVESC) in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, is hiring a full-time Veterinary Assistant, Emergency to join our growing Emergency & Specialty animal hospital. • Previous veterinary hospital experience preferred.
• Emergency veterinary experience is an asset.

• Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced emergency animal hospital environment.
• Willingness to learn and grow within emergency and specialty veterinary medicine.
• Positive attitude with a collaborative, team-focused approach.
• Fluent English speaking and reading skills required.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians with patient care and daily treatments.
• Support diagnostic procedures, radiographs, and IV setups.
• Collect samples and assist with operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
• Provide compassionate animal handling and restraint for patients with various needs and temperaments.
• Assist with patient care needs including cleaning, walking, feeding, and comfort measures.
• Help maintain accurate client and patient records, estimates, and billing information.
• Demonstrate calm, organized support during emergency situations.
• Assist with client communication including phone calls, patient updates, and check-ins.
• Help present estimates and process payments when needed.
• Maintain a clean and welcoming hospital environment, including kennels, treatment areas, and exam rooms.
• Participate in team rounds to support continuity of patient care.
• Provide excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism.
• Contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.

$19–$26/hour + $3/hour Shift Premium

• $19–$26/hour based on skill level and assessment
• $3/hour shift premium
• Weekday premium shifts: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
• Weekend premium shifts: Friday 7:00 p.m. – Monday 7:00 a.m.
