Job summary

Mohawk Animal Clinic in Hamilton, Ontario is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our three-doctor practice. You’ll assist the medical team, interact with clients, and help ensure a smooth patient experience across dentistry, surgery, and urgent care.

We offer a supportive, team-first environment, flexible scheduling with three- to four-day weeks and rotating Saturdays. Experience in a veterinary setting is preferred, with opportunities for ongoing training and career growth.

Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary receptionist or Veterinary Assistant experience is an asset.
  • Strong customer service and client communication skills.
  • Confidence with patient handling and basic veterinary skills or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures.
  • Safely handle patients and support the medical team.
  • Answer phones, route calls, and respond to voicemails promptly.
  • Make outbound communications to confirm appointments and follow up on care.
  • Collect payments, review estimates, and discuss services with clients.
  • Educate clients on care, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Coordinate patient care plans and prioritize urgent cases.
  • Maintain organized medical records and scheduling.

What You'll Do

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Safely and compassionately handle patients while supporting the medical team
  • Answer phones, route calls appropriately, and respond to voicemails promptly
  • Make outbound calls, texts, and emails to confirm appointments and follow up on care
  • Check patients in and out and maintain accurate client and patient informationCollect payments, process invoices, and review estimates with clients
  • Communicate hospital policies, pricing, and service information clearly
  • Manage medical record requests, reminders, and basic administrative tasks
  • Help clients schedule recommended services, rechecks, and follow-up appointments
  • Educate clients on patient care, medications, discharge instructions, and preventive care
  • Collaborate with veterinarians and technicians to coordinate patient care plans and timing
  • Help identify scheduling needs and appropriately prioritize urgent cases
  • Maintain clear communication between clients and the medical team
  • Support an organized and efficient hospital workflow
  • Jump in wherever needed to support your teammates and patients

What You'll Bring
