Intent of the process
There is a need to staff 2 positions indeterminately in Burlington, ON. This selection process will be used to create a pool of qualified candidates which may be used to staff similar positions on an indeterminate, specified period (term), or acting basis within the Canadian Coast Guard.

Positions to be filled

• Required to wear and maintain CSA approved safety footwear, as well as wear and maintain necessary personal protective equipment as required by the duties of the position.
• Required to obtain and maintain a valid Health Canada Medical
• Required to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Required to travel by vehicle, aircraft, and vessels on short notice if required for operational and training purposes.
• Required to complete standby duty after hours and on weekends as required on a rotational basis.
• Required to work overtime, as needed, sometimes on short notice to meet operational requirements.
• Required to work aboard ships, in confined spaces and in extreme weather.
• Required to work at heights.
• Required to be posted in remote areas for periods up to 4 weeks one to three times per year.
• Required to work with or near hazardous materials.
• Required to handle and move equipment of up to 100lbs.
• Required to go to sea in small craft for sea trials.

EDUCATION
Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution with certificate, diploma or higher in diesel mechanics, outboard motors or another specialization relevant to the duties of the position OR an acceptable combination of education, training or experience.

EXPERIENCE
*Essential experiences may be assessed globally through the application, resume, and interview.*EX01: Experience in a commercial environment with outboard motors, sterndrives, or in board engines in a capacity of maintaining and troubleshooting vessels propelled by this equipment.
EX02: Experience performing remote service calls for vessel repair
EX03: Experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook*Maintaining and troubleshooting is defined as conduction planned maintenance or troubleshooting/repair.

ASSET OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
AOC1: Certifications for industry standard equipment such as Yamaha, Volvo, or Mercury.

ASSET EXPERIENCE
AE1: Experience in applying Basic Marine Electrical Principles.
AE2: Experience in applying shop safety practices and procedures.
AE3: Experience towing vessels on trailers.
AE4: Experience in fiberglass, rigid hull, or boat collar repair.
AE5: Experience in industrial rigging.
AE6: Experience in conducting small vessel inspections including performing trials on new craft
AE7: Experience identifying and sourcing repair materials and parts
AE8: Experience working independently and making service calls for vessel repair in remote areas.
AE9: Experience operating small vessels
AE10: Experience in the use of asset management software and/or a work order tracking system.
AE11: Experience using forklifts or heavy equipment, including marine travel lifts and hydraulic self-propelled trailers.
AE12: Experience in boat trailer maintenance and repair.
