Job summary

Ubisoft Montréal seeks a Game Designer (vehicles) to own vehicle systems and mechanics for driving experiences in our latest titles. You will tune handling, physics, and customization while collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate features within Unreal Engine.

Applicants should have released-game vehicle design experience, strong Unreal Engine skills, and an interest in evolving vehicle gameplay through iteration and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience designing vehicles included in a released game.
  • Knowledge of vehicle handling, simulation and balancing.
  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine to design and tune game features.
  • Experience with Chaos Vehicles in Unreal Engine is an asset.
  • Interest in vehicle gameplay and mechanics.
  • Strong written and spoken communication.
  • Strong critical thinking, curiosity and collaboration.
  • Understanding of the video game market and what makes gameplay engaging.

Responsibilities

  • Design vehicle systems and features aligned with the game’s direction.
  • Tune handling and physics, including how various surfaces and terrain affect driving.
  • Balance vehicle settings in Unreal Engine to make driving feel engaging and realistic.
  • Design vehicle customization so changing parts affects how vehicles drive.
  • Design vehicle cameras, controls and combat features.
  • Build prototypes in Unreal Engine and evaluate their results.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to integrate features.
  • Adapt designs to technical and production constraints and resolve issues.
  • Create and maintain design documentation and improve features through iteration.
