Job summary

General Motors of Canada is seeking a software engineer to design and develop Linux-based connectivity software for the Markham Elevation Centre. You will work in a hybrid arrangement with a cross-functional team to deliver reliable vehicle connectivity software.

The role emphasizes C, C++, and Rust development, collaboration with hardware and cloud teams, and hands-on testing and debugging. Applicants must be enrolled in a Co-op program and eligible to work in Canada; the monthly salary ranges

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering or equivalent.
• Eligible to work full time hours, 40 hours per week for a term of 8 or 12 months (consecutive semesters).
• Preferred: interest in software at the intersection of software, hardware and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain C, C++, and Rust based tools and prototypes that support Linux connectivity software development and validation workflows.
• Assist with data handling, analysis, and problem solving that connect software behavior to real-world outcomes.
• Contribute to application logic, automation, and internal software for developer efficiency and prototyping speed.
• Support software testing and debugging by reproducing issues and documenting results clearly.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineers to translate ideas into prototypes and implementation plans.
• Participate in team design reviews and project planning while communicating progress and open issues.
