Job description

Company Overview:

Volatus Aerospace Inc. is a global leader in aerial solutions, bringing over 100 years of combined aviation expertise. We specialize in delivering innovative, customer-focused solutions that integrate both piloted and remotely piloted aircraft systems.

With headquarters in Vaughan, Ontario, and a growing global footprint, Volatus supports clients across key sectors including energy, public safety, infrastructure, and defense. Our operations span Canada, the United States, and international markets, driving innovation in aerospace autonomy, manufacturing, and advanced aerial services.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Project Manager to lead multiple concurrent, multidisciplinary engineering projects that span software, hardware, mechanical design, systems engineering, and verification and validation. The role requires coordinating interdependent technical workstreams across the full product development lifecycle, aligning cross-functional teams, managing interfaces and dependencies, and driving projects to successful completion within defined timelines and budgets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans, including milestones, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements for multiple simultaneous engineering projects.
  • Monitor and track project progress on a regular basis, proactively identifying risks, blockers, and deviations from plan.
  • Facilitate cross-team communication and coordination to ensure all stakeholders are aligned on priorities, status, and decisions.
  • Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and provide regular financial reporting to engineering and business leadership.
  • Coordinate the purchasing of project materials, equipment, and services in collaboration with Finance, ensuring alignment with approved budgets, purchase-order requirements, vendor processes, and project cost tracking.
  • Support NetSuite integration with project management workflows and oversee timesheet administration to ensure accurate labour allocation, project costing, invoicing inputs, and management reporting.
  • Lead project status meetings, prepare meeting agendas, document decisions, and follow up on action items.
  • Escalate issues in a timely manner and work with engineering leads and leadership stakeholders to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including status reports, risk registers, and change logs.
  • Defining and enforcing project management best practices, processes, and tools across all managed workstreams.
  • Drive accountability among team members to meet commitments and deliver high-quality outcomes on schedule.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be reasonably assigned by the Company from time to time.
Qualification Requirement:
  • 3-5 years of project management experience, with a strong track record of delivering complex technical or engineering projects on time and within budget.
  • Hands-on experience supporting complex physical product development programs that integrate software, hardware, mechanical design, systems engineering, and verification and validation workstreams, ideally within aerospace, automotive, or other regulated engineering environments.
  • Canadian Security Clearance is required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, or hybrid approaches), along with a practical understanding of the systems engineering V-model, including requirements traceability and the alignment of design and integration activities with verification and validation.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing project budgets and tracking costs.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with technical teams and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Smartsheet, MS Project, or similar), including experience with NetSuite integration and timesheet management for resource tracking, project costing, and reporting.
  • PMP certification or equivalent preferred.
Preferred Qualification:
  • Background in software, hardware, mechanical design, systems engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience working in a technology-driven organization or startup environment.
  • Familiarity with engineering workflows, software development lifecycles, and technical project constraints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
