GrizzlyTrek Group is hiring Vac Truck Operators for industrial and environmental service projects in northern Alberta and British Columbia. The role is based in Edmonton with paid training starting in August and project work beginning in early September, traveling to sites across western Canada.

You will operate vac trucks, perform tank and line cleaning, and support site clean-up. Crews travel together on multi-week rotations, with opportunity for ongoing work beyond September 30.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 licence with air brake endorsement.
  • Current driver’s abstract, and ability to pass a driving assessment in Edmonton.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
  • Online training starts Aug 13 or 14; in-person Aug 26 or 28.
  • Travel and work away from home from Sept 5–30.
  • Physically able to perform industrial work in all weather (climbing, hose handling, confined space).

Responsibilities

  • Operate vac trucks and related equipment on industrial and environmental service jobs.
  • Clean tanks, vessels, sumps and lines, including confined space entry work.
  • Complete pre-trip inspections and keep unit clean, fueled and service ready.
  • Follow site-specific safety procedures, permits, hazard assessments and lockout requirements.
  • Handle, transport and offload waste streams to site and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete field tickets, logs and daily paperwork accurately.
  • Work as part of a travelling crew on multi-week project rotations.

  • Position Type: Full-Time

  • Location: Home base Edmonton, Alberta. Project work in northern Alberta and British Columbia.

  • Schedule: Multi-week project rotations. Travel required, away from home during project work.

  • Compensation: $30.00 to $34.00 per hour, based on competency. $18.00 per hour while completing training.

  • Weekly Gross: $2,940.00 to $3,332.00 per week at 80 hours (44 regular hours plus 36 overtime hours at time and a half, Alberta rules). Gross, before deductions. Hours vary by project.

  • Overtime: After 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week while working in Alberta. BC work follows BC overtime rules, which work out slightly higher on an 80 hour week.

  • Licence: Valid Class 1 or Class 3 with air brake endorsement. Current driver's abstract required.

  • Certification: ESC H2S Alive, ESC Fall Protection and ESC Confined Space Entry are an asset and shorten in-person training.

  • Training Start: August 13 or 14 (online). August 26 or 28 (in person), depending on training group.

  • Project Start: Travel September 5 or 6.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking Vac Truck Operators to join our valued client's team on industrial and environmental service projects in northern Alberta and British Columbia. This is a full-time hourly position based out of Edmonton, with paid training starting in August and project work beginning in early September. At 80 hours a week, operators gross $2,940.00 to $3,332.00 per week.


Operators run vac trucks on tank, vessel and line cleaning, wet and dry vacuum work, and site cleanup at large industrial facilities. Crews travel to each project together, work it through, and move to the next one. Work is confirmed through September 30, with additional projects lined up beyond that date where we expect to keep operators working.


What You'll Do

Preferred Qualifications


  • Valid ESC H2S Alive, ESC Fall Protection and ESC Confined Space Entry certifications

  • Previous vac truck, hydrovac or industrial cleaning experience

  • Oil sands, gas plant or turnaround site experience


Hiring and Training Process


  1. Driving assessment in Edmonton. A current driver's abstract is required.

  2. Offer of employment. Once you pass the driving assessment, you apply to the open requisition and receive a temporary employment offer.

  3. Pre-employment requirements. On acceptance we schedule the alcohol and drug test and provide the hire-on package, which can be completed by phone or computer.

  4. Training. Once cleared, 38 to 48 hours of online learning followed by 6 days of in-person training. Online learning can be completed remotely, though local candidates are encouraged to use our Edmonton training lab so we can support them through it. In-person training may be reduced for candidates who already hold valid ESC H2S Alive, ESC Fall Protection and ESC Confined Space Entry certifications.


Work Plan

Candidates need to be available on the following schedule:



  • Online training begins August 13 or 14

  • In-person training begins August 26 or 28, depending on training group

  • Travel September 5 or 6 to a northern Alberta project site, working through September 11

  • Travel by bus directly to British Columbia, working through September 30

  • Additional projects follow September 30 where we expect to continue utilizing operators
