Description
Responsibilities:- Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
- Design the overall functionality of the product to ensure a great user experience, iterating upon it in accordance with user testing.
- Design user interfaces for various projects such as digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
- Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate the designs.
- Conceive and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys, translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
General Skills
- Relevant experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience as a UX designer, interactive designer, UI designer, or similar role, designing for web and mobile applications.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools.
- Thorough understanding of the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies.
- Experience in designing online programs with an emphasis on the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Experience in gathering user feedback to configure existing interfaces.
- A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines, managing competing priorities, and client relationship management experience.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of network security and network protocols.
Experience and Skill Set Requirements
Technical Skills - 55%
- Experience with industry principles like Google Material Design, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, etc.
- Sample portfolio of projects for mobile and web.
- Experience in developing code using JavaScript frameworks like Angular or React.
- Demonstrated experience developing systems using client-side libraries (Bootstrap, Angular JS, jQuery, JavaScript), HTML5/CSS3.
- Experience with wireframing tools like Wireframe.cc, Axure, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience with designing responsive Cloud-based web applications for a variety of devices/browsers/screen sizes, including screen readers that comply with the Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0).
- Proven experience using a variety of methodologies to carry out the software development lifecycle (e.g., Agile, waterfall, etc.).
Other Skills - 40%
- Create original graphic designs (e.g., images, sketches, and tables).
- Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g., responsiveness).
- Proven experience in leading and executing user research (qualitative and quantitative) with design thinking methodologies and user testing best practices.
- Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
- Portfolio of design projects.
- B.A./B.S. in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or Human Factors.
Public Sector Experience - 5%
- Experience within the public sector, particularly with Ontario Curriculum systems.
Must Haves
- Experience with team collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, Bitbucket, or GitLab.
- Experience with wireframing tools like Wireframe.cc, Axure, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Demonstrated experience to effectively probe and formulate questions during user testing sessions.
