Description
Responsibilities:
  1. Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
  2. Design the overall functionality of the product to ensure a great user experience, iterating upon it in accordance with user testing.
  3. Design user interfaces for various projects such as digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
  4. Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate the designs.
  5. Conceive and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys, translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
General Skills
  1. Relevant experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
  2. Experience as a UX designer, interactive designer, UI designer, or similar role, designing for web and mobile applications.
  3. Proficiency with design and prototyping tools.
  4. Thorough understanding of the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies.
  5. Experience in designing online programs with an emphasis on the emotional aspects of human experience.
  6. Experience in gathering user feedback to configure existing interfaces.
  7. A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines, managing competing priorities, and client relationship management experience.
Desirable Skills
  1. Knowledge of network security and network protocols.
Experience and Skill Set Requirements
Technical Skills - 55%
  1. Experience with industry principles like Google Material Design, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, etc.
  2. Sample portfolio of projects for mobile and web.
  3. Experience in developing code using JavaScript frameworks like Angular or React.
  4. Demonstrated experience developing systems using client-side libraries (Bootstrap, Angular JS, jQuery, JavaScript), HTML5/CSS3.
  5. Experience with wireframing tools like Wireframe.cc, Axure, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.
  6. Experience with designing responsive Cloud-based web applications for a variety of devices/browsers/screen sizes, including screen readers that comply with the Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0).
  7. Proven experience using a variety of methodologies to carry out the software development lifecycle (e.g., Agile, waterfall, etc.).
Other Skills - 40%
  1. Create original graphic designs (e.g., images, sketches, and tables).
  2. Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g., responsiveness).
  3. Proven experience in leading and executing user research (qualitative and quantitative) with design thinking methodologies and user testing best practices.
  4. Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
  5. Portfolio of design projects.
  6. B.A./B.S. in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or Human Factors.
Public Sector Experience - 5%
  1. Experience within the public sector, particularly with Ontario Curriculum systems.
Must Haves
  1. Experience with team collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, Bitbucket, or GitLab.
  2. Experience with wireframing tools like Wireframe.cc, Axure, Sketch, Adobe Creative Suite.
  3. Demonstrated experience to effectively probe and formulate questions during user testing sessions.
