Description:
Responsibilities:
- Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
- Design the overall functionality of the product to ensure a great user experience, iterating upon it in accordance with user testing.
- Design user interfaces for various projects such as digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
- Take a user-centered design approach and rapidly test and iterate the designs.
- Conceive and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys, translating them into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
General Skills:
- Relevant experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience as a UX designer, interactive designer, UI designer, or similar role, designing for web and mobile applications.
- Proficiency with design and prototyping tools.
- Thorough understanding of the limitations and appropriate use of web development technologies.
- Experience in designing online programs with an emphasis on the emotional aspects of human experience.
- Experience facilitating the client’s product vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing experiences for digital products.
- Experience identifying design problems and devising elegant solutions.
- A team player with a track record for meeting deadlines, managing competing priorities, and client relationship management experience.
- Knowledge of network security and network protocols.
Experience and Skill Set Requirements:
Technical Skills - 55%
- Experience with industry principles like Google Material Design, iOS Human Interface Guidelines, etc.
- Sample portfolio of projects for mobile and web.
- Experience with team collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, Team Foundation Server, Bitbucket, or GitLab.
- Experience with CSS preprocessors such as SASS, SCSS, and LESS, Flex-Layout, and CSS grid design concepts.
- Working knowledge of Service Oriented Architecture.
- Proven experience using a variety of methodologies to carry out the software development lifecycle (e.g., Agile, waterfall, etc.).
- Extensive experience working on projects for web and mobile.
- Experience in quickly adapting designs based on client feedback.
Other Skills - 40%
- Create original graphic designs (e.g., images, sketches, and tables).
- Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look.
- Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g., responsiveness).
- Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
- Proven experience in leading and executing user research (qualitative and quantitative) with design thinking methodologies and user testing best practices.
- Experience leading UX design discovery sessions with business stakeholders to define personas, goals, user journeys, and pain points.
- Proven experience developing research scenarios, flows, questions, and testing scripts for different user groups.
- Demonstrated experience effectively probing and formulating questions during user testing sessions to document findings.
- Proven work experience as a UI/UX Designer or similar role.
- Experience with low to high fidelity prototyping tools (i.e., Axure, Sketch, Adobe XD).
- B.A./B.S. in Design, Human Computer Interaction (HCI), or Human Factors.
- Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

- Proven experience working in a multi-disciplinary team using Product backlog, user stories, epics managed under DevOps.
Public Sector Experience - 5%
- Experience within the public sector, particularly with Ontario Curriculum systems.
