Job summary

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is hiring a Utility Worker/Groundskeeper to support facility operations in North Bay. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m.

to 4:00 p.m., with a salary around $55,350 to $56,598 annually. The position requires a secondary school diploma or trade school with experience, ability to maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems, perform grounds maintenance, read drawings, and lift equipment; valid driver license; and

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma with 4 years in trades maintenance or construction field.
• Trade school graduate with 2 years experience acceptable.
• Ability to adjust and minor repairs to HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems.
• Experience with drywall patching, painting and carpentry.
• Ability to read architectural, structural and mechanical/electrical drawings.
• Knowledge of OHSA, WHMIS and Ontario Building Code.
• Valid driver’s license and occasional use of own vehicle.
• Willingness to work afternoon shifts (3:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m.).
• Must have physical ability to move/lift equipment and climb ladders.

Responsibilities

• Adjust and repair HVAC, electrical, plumbing and other systems.
• Patch drywall, paint and carpentry tasks as required.
• Support system schools with cleaning and related duties.
• Clear snow and control ice on walkways and entrances as needed.
• Seasonal grounds maintenance: mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, weeding.
• Replace and maintain HVAC/ventilation filters.
• Read and interpret architectural/structural/mechanical drawings.
• Operate small motors like lawnmowers and snow blowers.
• Comply with OHSA/WHMIS and Ontario Building Code.

UTILITY WORKER /GROUNDSKEEPER SYSTEM

FTE: 1.0 Permanent (40 hours/week)

Shift: 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Schedule: Monday to Friday

(Salary Range: $55,350 - $56,598 annually based on 40 hours/week)

Requirements

Secondary school diploma combined with a minimum 4 years of experience in trades maintenance or a construction related field. Graduation from a recognized trade school and two years of experience is also acceptable.

• Demonstrated ability to make adjustments and minor repairs to commercial/institutional heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems
• Demonstrated ability and experience with dry wall patching, painting and carpentry
• Ability and willingness to provide support to system schools; could include assisting with lunch tables and cleaning etc.
• Provide occasional support to system schools: clearing snow and performing ice control on walkways, entrances, and designated areas.
• Perform seasonal grounds maintenance to system schools, including grass cutting, operating a whipper snipper, trimming bushes and vegetation along fence lines, fertilizing, aerating, weeding, and maintain landscaped areas and flower gardens.
• Replace and maintain HVAC and ventilation filters as scheduled.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and mechanical/electrical drawings
• Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain small motors including lawnmowers, snow blowers etc.
• A sound working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHMIS and the Ontario Building Code
• Good problem-solving skills, organizational skills and communications skills (written and oral)
• Ability and experience in a related computerized environment (i.e.: databases, email etc.)
• Demonstrated ability to complete assigned work with consistent high quality results, according to prescribed standards in a safe, efficient, economical manner, to use appropriate judgement and to work without direct supervision
• Must be able to perform the physical duties of this job including moving and lifting equipment, climbing ladders or scaffolding, working indoors or outdoors in all seasons and conditions and have good hearing and vision under normal circumstances
• Valid driver's license and occasional use of your own vehicle
• Willingness to work occasional afternoon shifts (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.)
