This role involves applying standard inspection procedures for multiple NCDOT projects, coordinating the installation and/or relocation of overhead and underground utilities throughout Division 11, covering Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties. The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable interacting with contractors and the public. This position is not eligible for employer sponsorship except for TN visa classification.

Position Summary

This is a full-time, long-term, permanent position responsible for inspection and utility coordination during and after construction, ensuring structural quality, safety, and adherence to plans, specifications, and codes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  1. Review NCDOT Utility By Other Plans
  2. Coordinate and oversee the relocation and/or installation of wet, dry, underground, and overhead utilities
  3. Perform coordination, inspection, and documentation of utility contractor operations for new and ongoing NCDOT projects in Division 11, verifying conformance to plans and specifications
  4. Review NCDOT encroachments and complex utility plans
  5. Knowledge of traffic control installation practices and review of contractor-provided traffic control
  6. Perform routine material testing
  7. Measure and track quantities of pay items
  8. Maintain records including material certifications, testing reports, and daily diaries
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills
  • Effective communication with contractors and the public
  • Successful completion of JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active driver's license
  • At least 2 years of construction inspection experience on transportation or utility projects; 4+ years preferred
Working Conditions

Fieldwork involving bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs. Outside work in various weather conditions.
