Job summary

Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) seeks a full-time Utility Technician to support operation, maintenance and system upgrades for five water systems in Creston and the East Shore area, with potential to assist up to 13 systems in the Nelson area.

Ideal candidates have at least three years of water system experience (prefer Class 2 UF filtration), a high school diploma, safety certifications, a valid BC Class 5 license, and strong communication and teamwork skills; salary starts at

• Three years of direct water system experience; preference for Class 2 UF membrane plant.
• High School Diploma required.
• Confined Space Entry, Trenching Safety, WHMIS.
• Valid BC Class 5 driver's license with satisfactory abstract; clean criminal record.

Working closely with other Utility Technicians and senior operators within the Water Services team, this position provides operation, maintenance and system upgrade support for 5 water services (Creston and East Shore area) and may be called upon to provide system support for 13 water systems (Nelson area) within the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Three years experience working directly with water systems, with preference for at least 2 years experience in a Class 2 water treatment plant employing UF membrane filtration;
• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Confined Space Entry;
• Trenching Safety;
• WHMIS;
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with satisfactory Drivers Abstract; and Satisfactory Criminal Record.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Water treatment and/or water distribution skills;
• Construction and/or plumbing experience preferred;
• Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal Acts, Regulations and Guidelines;
• Ability to work within established RDCK policies and procedures;
• Ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form;
• Ability to understand technical manuals and engineering drawings;
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and
• Ability to work independently as well as in a group environment as part of a team.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.

The normal starting salary for this position is $34.76 with a range of $33.25 - $37.78 based on experience.

The successful candidate will additionally have 3 weeks vacation, a comprehensive benefits package and generous pension plan.
