Job summary

Regional District of Central Kootenay is seeking a Utility Technician 2 to support 5 water services (Creston and East Shore) and assist across water systems as needed. This full-time, benefitted role works with a team of technicians and senior operators.

The position requires EOCP Level 2 certifications in water distribution and water treatment, plus practical field experience and a strong safety record. Salary starts around $34.76/hour with vacation and benefits.

Qualifications

• Three years experience working directly with water systems; preference for 2+ years in a Class 2 UF membrane plant.
• EOCP (or provincial equivalent) Water Distribution Level 2 certification.
• EOCP (or provincial equivalent) Water Treatment Level 2 certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Confined Space Entry.
• Trenching Safety.
• WHMIS.
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with satisfactory Driver Abstract and Criminal Record.

Responsibilities

• Water treatment and/or water distribution skills.
• Construction and/or plumbing experience preferred.
• Familiarity with relevant Acts, Regulations and Guidelines.
• Ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form.

Utility Technician 2

Erickson / Creston Valley Full-Time—Benefitted

Working closely with other Utility Technicians and senior operators within the Water Services team, this position provides operation, maintenance and system upgrade support for 5 water services (Creston and East Shore area) and may be called upon to provide system support for 13 water systems (Nelson area) within the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Three years experience working directly with water systems, with preference for at least 2 years experience in a Class 2 water treatment plant employing UF membrane filtration;
• EOCP (or provincial equivalent) Water Distribution Level 2 certification;
• EOCP (or provincial equivalent) Water Treatment Level 2 certification;
• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Confined Space Entry;
• Trenching Safety;
• WHMIS;
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with satisfactory Drivers Abstract; and Satisfactory Criminal Record.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Water treatment and/or water distribution skills;
• Construction and/or plumbing experience preferred;
• Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal Acts, Regulations and Guidelines;
• Ability to work within established RDCK policies and procedures;
• Ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form;
• Ability to understand technical manuals and engineering drawings;
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and
• Ability to work independently as well as in a group environment as part of a team.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. The normal starting salary for this position is $34.76 with a range of $33.25 - $37.78 based on experience. The successful candidate will additionally have 3 weeks vacation, a comprehensive benefits package and generous pension plan.
