Job summary

Regional District of Central Kootenay invites applications for a Utility Technician 2 to join the Water Services team. The role focuses on operation, maintenance, and upgrades across 5 water services in Creston and East Shore, with potential support for 13 systems in Nelson, working alongside other technicians and senior operators.

The position requires 3 years of water systems experience, EOCP Level 2 certifications in distribution and treatment, and a valid BC driver’s license with a clean

Qualifications

• Three years experience working directly with water systems, with preference for at least 2 years experience in a Class 2 water treatment plant employing UF membrane filtration.
• EOCP Water Distribution Level 2 certification and EOCP Water Treatment Level 2 certification.
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Confined Space Entry; Trenching Safety; WHMIS.
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence with satisfactory Drivers Abstract; and Satisfactory Criminal Record.

Responsibilities

• Operation, maintenance and system upgrade support for 5 water services (Creston and East Shore area).
• May be called upon to provide system support for 13 water systems (Nelson area).
• Work closely with Utility Technicians and senior operators within Water Services.
• Ensure compliance with RDCK policies and procedures; communicate effectively in oral and written form.

UTILITY TECHNICIAN 2

Working closely with other Utility Technicians and senior operators within the Water Services team, this position provides operation, maintenance and system upgrade support for 5 water services (Creston and East Shore area) and may be called upon to provide system support for 13 water systems (Nelson area) within the Regional District of Central Kootenay.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• Three years experience working directly with water systems, with preference for at least 2 years experience in a Class 2 water treatment plant employing UF membrane filtration;
• EOCP Water Distribution Level 2 certification;
• EOCP Water Treatment Level 2 certification;
• High School Diploma or equivalent;
• Confined Space Entry;
• Trenching Safety;
• WHMIS;
• Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with satisfactory Drivers Abstract; and Satisfactory Criminal Record.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Water treatment and/or water distribution skills;
• Construction and/or plumbing experience preferred;
• Familiarity with relevant provincial and federal Acts, Regulations and Guidelines;
• Ability to work within established RDCK policies and procedures;
• Ability to communicate effectively, in oral and written form;
• Ability to understand technical manuals and engineering drawings;
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and
• Ability to work independently as well as in a group environment as part of a team.

This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week.

The normal starting salary for this position is $34.76 with a range of $33.25 – $37.78 based on experience.
