Job summary

Big White Utilities is seeking motivated Utility Operators (Levels I–III) to join our team at Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna, BC. This full-time, on-site role involves operating and maintaining water and wastewater systems, SCADA monitoring, and participating in seasonal system preparation under EOCP and provincial regulations.

Opportunities vary by level, with pathways to lead repairs, safety inspections, and mentoring of junior operators.

Qualifications

• EOCP Level I certification in water treatment/distribution or wastewater treatment/collection.
• 1–2 years related experience; mechanical aptitude and field experience an asset.
• Wage for Operator I: $34.70/hour
• EOCP Level II certification in water treatment/distribution or wastewater treatment/collection.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in utility operations.
• Strong understanding of process control and SCADA systems.
• Wage for Operator II: $38.21/hour
• EOCP Level III certification in water treatment/distribution or wastewater treatment/collection.
• 5+ years of experience operating Class II treatment facilities.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Wage for Operator III: $42.38/hour

Responsibilities

• Perform daily inspections, monitoring, sampling, and process adjustments for water and wastewater systems.
• Operate and maintain treatment processes, pumps, UV reactors, filters, and chlorination systems.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on valves, hydrants, mains, and collection infrastructure.
• Operate SCADA and computerized monitoring systems.
• Maintain detailed operational logs and reporting in compliance with regulations.
• Respond to callouts and emergencies as part of the standby rotation.
• Mentor junior operators (Levels II–III).
• Assist with or lead repairs, safety inspections, and project work.
• Participate in seasonal system preparation (hydrant winterization, flushing, basin inspection, etc.).
