Overview

The Bluestem Utilities team has an opening for a Utility Operator 2. This role involves operating water analysis and treatment equipment to ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards. It offers a chance to be part of a growth-oriented organization with extensive training and development opportunities.

Location and Schedule

This position is based in Kamloops, British Columbia. Some travel is required, including visits to plants and construction sites. Hours may include weekends and on-call shifts.

What you'll do

  • Control flow and processing of water/wastewater, residuals, and finished water/effluent, operating valves and gates manually or remotely
  • Monitor gauges, meters, and control panels, observing operating variations
  • Collect samples and perform routine laboratory tests, interpreting results to determine processing needs
  • Maintain accurate and current plant records
  • Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to manage flow and treatment processes
  • Conduct sampling of wastewater systems regularly to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Operate, inspect, and service water and wastewater equipment, including hydraulics, pumps, and valves
  • Follow safety, security, and administrative procedures related to chemical hazards, PPE, health, safety, and emergency preparedness
  • Maintain emergency preparedness binders and manuals
  • Perform routine repairs on water distribution and wastewater systems
  • Keep shift logs and record meter and gauge readings
  • Perform other related duties as needed

What you bring

Education / Experience

Trades or technical certifications are acceptable, even without utility operator certifications.
