Job summary

The District of Saanich is seeking a Utility Operator I – Storm & Wastewater in the Engineering Department. This is a permanent full-time CUPE Local 2011 position with a wage of $36.68 per hour (2026 rate) and an excellent benefits package.

Typical duties include assisting in sewer and drain operations, bank stabilization, gabion installation, lift station construction, and spill response. Work is Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., 40 hours/week, with an emphasis on safety and community

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • One year of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems.
  • EOCP OIT Certification for Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection is an asset.
  • Traffic Control Certificate.
  • Occupational First Aid Level 1 and confined space entry training as required.
  • Basic navigation skills of field-based GIS software.
  • A Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement is an asset and annual renewal of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are required.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Requirements

The successful candidate

Will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). In addition to the interview process, testing will be conducted. Only those under consideration will be contacted.
