Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Utility Arborist Apprentice in Brantford, Ontario. You will gain exposure to all Arborist duties while supporting field crews and maintaining safe, organized sites. The company aims to help apprentices become Certified Arborists over time.

The role is year-round, full-time and on-site with a comprehensive benefits package and training opportunities. Must be 18+ and capable of lifting 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license required (air brake endorsement is an asset).
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Willingness to learn and progress toward Arborist certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist Arborists in field work and support equipment handling.
• Control lowering ropes and supply tools aloft for tree workers.
• Manage traffic with warning devices; maintain clean, safe job site.
• Perform daily/weekly/monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood; ensure proper site cleanup.
• Collaborate with crew and follow safety policies.

Position Overview

As a Utility Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Utility line clearing experience an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
