Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company is seeking an Arborist Apprentice in Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario. You will gain exposure to all aspects of the Arborist role, working in the field to support Arborists while keeping sites safe, clean and organized.

The role offers path towards certification as a Certified Arborist. Responsibilities include equipment and site maintenance, assisting crew, and adhering to Davey safety policies.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; 5-ton vehicle license with air brake considered an asset.
• Willingness to work toward becoming a Certified Arborist.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and learn.

Responsibilities

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed with warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly equipment maintenance inspections.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As an Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree, you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. You will spend your day in the field supporting Arborists all while ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site. In time Davey Tree would look to support the apprentice in becoming a Certified Arborist.

Job Duties

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
