Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is seeking a Utility Arborist Apprentice to begin gaining exposure to all aspects of the Arborist role.

You will work in the field supporting Arborists, ensuring a clean, safe, and organized site, with a path to become a Certified Arborist. The role involves handling ropes, assisting with equipment, and following safety policies on a full-time, year-round basis in Barrie, ON with additional opportunities at Orillia.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Experience in arboriculture or horticulture.
• Willingness to work toward becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Control lowering ropes.
• Supply tools for tree workers aloft.
• Control road and sidewalk traffic as needed by use of warning devices.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance inspections on equipment.
• Cut, chip and load brush and wood.
• Complete proper job site cleanup.
• Assist other crew members in performing job duties.
• Abide by Davey and industry safety policies and procedures.

Position Overview

As a Utility Arborist Apprentice with Davey Tree you will begin to gain exposure on all aspects of the Arborist role. Job Duties

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement considered an asset.
• Previous arboriculture/horticulture experience.
• Utility line clearing experience an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified Arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $20-$25/hour. Wage will be determined based on education, experience, and relevant qualifications or certifications.
