AbCellera is breaking the barriers of conventional drug development to propel antibody-based medicines from target to clinic. We are a team of scientists, engineers, creatives, and business professionals who believe that advancing science enhances lives. We have developed technologies to unlock high-value drug targets, including antibody-drug conjugates and T-cell engagers for cancer, and complex transmembrane proteins for indications such as metabolic and endocrine conditions, pain, and autoimmunity.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Utilities Systems Specialist to join our Facilities and Engineering team, playing a key role in the start-up, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of critical utilities systems in our new GMP manufacturing facility. In this role, based in beautiful Vancouver, you will work closely with manufacturing operations, process engineering, quality and other technical operations functions. You will act as the Chief Boiler Power Engineer, as defined by Technical Safety BC, for our new GMP manufacturing facility and will be the main point of contact with Technical Safety BC, in terms of permit and compliance to requirements.

How you might spend your days

  • Providing technical support as the subject matter expert for boilers and process vessels in compliance with the Technical Safety BC
  • Supporting the day-to-day safe and reliable monitoring and operation of all utilities equipment/systems (e.g. boilers, chillers, air handling units, water for injection, compressed air, clean gasses, etc.), including attendance to BMS alarm
  • Carrying out work order relating to routine maintenance and planned repair activities for utilities equipment through CMMS e-system
  • Performing shutdown and restart of utilities systems during major maintenance activities or unplanned power outage in accordance with internal safety and quality requirements
  • Providing technical support, troubleshooting, and problem-solving solutions for utilities systems interfacing with manufacturing process and quality control equipment
  • Providing recommendations for improvements on operations of utilities and base building equipment
  • Guiding and developing utility technicians to have the necessary skills and knowledge to work safely and effectively
  • May be asked to perform shift work based on company business needs and to ensure minimal downtime of facilities

We’d love to hear from you if

  • You are passionate about building dynamic new teams and capabilities that accomplish important goals
  • You are a creative and innovative thinker, with the ability to identify potential issues before they arise
  • You have 6+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing plant operation (steam plant, production, maintenance, quality, safety, and environmental compliance) or similar industry
  • You have a valid Technical Safety BC Class IV Power Engineering certificate or higher
  • You have significant knowledge and experience on base utilities equipment such as Boiler, Chiller, AHU, and Gases. Hands-on experience in GMP clean utilities (e.g. Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water System, Water for Injection, Clean Compressed air, etc.) would be desirable.
  • You have a strong mechanical aptitude and electrical knowledge, and able to perform and supervise routine maintenance and repair tasks
  • You have a strong operational acumen with experience in risk management, and can prioritize science and engineering approaches to prevent process downtime

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for this role is CAD $77,800 - $98,000 annually, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, annual bonus dependent on team and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits.
