SBM Urban Planner Job Description

SBM is currently seeking an intermediate-level Urban Planner with industry experience.

The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary team researching, analyzing, and preparing land development projects and planning studies for private and public sector clients. Reporting to the Division Manager and Principals, the candidate will have the opportunity to lead various land development projects across southwestern Ontario.

This role is based in-office and can be located in London or Kitchener, ON.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the submission of development applications, including Official Plan Amendments, Zoning Bylaw Amendments, Site Plan Applications, minor variances, consent applications, and Plans of Subdivisions.
  • Organize public consultation and community information meetings.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and prepare due diligence studies.
  • Manage and coordinate team workload and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Oversee technical aspects of land development projects.
  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships and participate in business development.
  • Ensure professionalism, time management, quality control, troubleshooting, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Relevant Urban Planning degree with Full OPPI membership or eligibility to apply.
  • RPP designation or eligibility within 6 months.
  • Minimum 5 years industry planning experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in office, graphics, and design software.
  • Strong time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams with attention to detail.
  • Motivated to learn and grow professionally.
