Job summary

Qualifications

CA$32.04 / hr - CA$33.83 / hr

SCOPE :

Are you passionate about connecting people with nature and building community connection through environmental stewardship? Join our dynamic Urban Forest Stewardship team and play a key role in how Surrey cares for its shade trees and natural areas. We’re seeking a strategic, innovative leader to plan and oversee impactful programs for a wide range of audiences, and to foster meaningful community engagement in urban forest care.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

As a Stewardship Programmer, you will help oversee a team of staff and volunteers to increase awareness and inspire care for Surrey’s shade trees and natural areas. In this role you will :

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of environmental stewardship initiatives, including tree sales, invasive plant removals, community tree plantings, shade tree care, public events, and educational programs
  • Leadership in recruiting, training, supervising, and scheduling junior staff and volunteers
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with volunteers, program participants, staff, the public, and other stakeholders
  • Develop new programming by applying your knowledge of environmental education and community engagement
  • Share expertise in local native and invasive plant and animal species
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written formats
  • Create and distribute educational and promotional materials
  • Support the team through a range of organizational and administrative tasks as needed
  • Perform the hands-on and outdoor aspects of the role

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Graduated from a recognized university or college level program in a related field plus two (2) years of progressively responsible experience (including supervision)
  • A current Occupational First Aid Level One certificate (or acceptable equivalent)
  • A valid class 5 BC driver’s license with a safe driving history
