Job summary

Atomic Cartoons in Vancouver, BC, is seeking an experienced Previs and Layout Supervisor to lead our Unreal-driven production. You will oversee previs and layout, guide artists, and collaborate with directors, CG, and production to realize the director’s and client’s vision using Unreal Engine.

The role requires strong Unreal and Maya skills, a track record of supervising animation teams, and the ability to translate storyboards into dynamic 3D sequences.

Qualifications

• Prior Previs/Layout supervision experience in animation, with ability to lead a team.
• Strong Unreal Engine proficiency is required.
• Knowledge of Maya is required.
• Proficiency with 3D software pipelines: Unreal, Maya, Katana, Houdini, Nuke.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and time-management skills.
• Willingness to learn new tools and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of Previs and Layout, leading a team of artists.
• Collaborate with Animation Director, CG Supervisor and Production to meet quality and schedule targets.
• Develop 3D sequences and animatics with Unreal to visualize director/client vision.
• Determine camera placement, movement, lens choices, staging and composition for dynamic sequences.
• Prepare assets and provide technical details to downstream departments.
• Convert storyboards or scripts into Unreal-based sequences to set up virtual cameras.
• Coordinate with Lighting, Assets, and other departments to maintain cinematographic style.
