Job summary

Atomic Cartoons, a Blue Ant Studios company, seeks a CG Layout Artist to craft shot sequences in a 3D environment. You will establish camera blocking, animate movement, and collaborate with storyboard teams to heighten cinematic storytelling.

The role supports remote work within BC, with Vancouver and Lower Mainland options for hybrid or in-studio work. Applicants should have Maya experience, strong layout/animation skills, and the ability to translate storyboards into compelling visuals.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Maya or other professional animation software.
  • Strong skills in layout, animation, and cinematography.
  • Ability to interpret a storyboard and convey visual storytelling.
  • Good understanding of character posing and lighting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and take direction from supervisors.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of feature or series animation production pipeline is an asset.
  • Knowledge of modeling, lighting and texturing is an asset.
  • Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • BC-based artists are preferred for this role.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Create sequences of shots that convey the story through the application of traditional filmmaking principles in a 3D computer environment.
  • Establish character blocking, camera positioning, and animate camera movement.
  • Collaborate with the storyboard team to create and enhance the story through the cinematic layout of shots.
  • Work with the Layout Supervisor and attend meetings to ensure layout adheres to the vision set out by the Directors.
  • Meet deadlines as assigned by production management.
  • Stay updated and familiar with new related and relevant technologies.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience working with Maya or other professional animation software.
  • Strong skills in layout, animation, and cinematography.
  • Ability to interpret a storyboard and excellent visual storytelling skills.
  • Good understanding of character posing and lighting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, taking direction and feedback from the Supervisor as necessary.

START DATE: Early/Mid September 2026
- Applicants must have resided within BC as of December 31, 2025 and be able to provide the appropriate supporting documents.
All Atomic employees in this role have the opportunity to work remotely within BC, artists within Vancouver and the Lower Mainland can also choose hybrid and in-studio options.

At Atomic Cartoons and Blue Ant Studios, we take into consideration a wide range of compensation factors including background, skills, location, and experience to determine competitive pay. In addition to competitive pay, this position is eligible for company-sponsored benefits including medical, GRSP, vacation pay, paid holiday break,paid leave,and a variety of other discounts and perks. Please note: This expected pay range is for British Columbia and is not applicable to locations outside of the province of British Columbia.

Wage ranges are based on a weekly rate.

$1,200 - $1,450 CAD
