The UW-Madison Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) is comprised of 15 in-house attorneys providing legal advice and representation on complex and specialized issues affecting the university. The Attorney II (University Legal Counsel) or Attorney III (Senior University Legal Counsel) position is a professional, academic staff role in OLA. Responsibilities include advising on legal matters, participating in training, and providing guidance on various legal subjects for UW-Madison administrators, faculty, and staff.
Working with attorneys in the practice area, this role primarily provides advice on:
The attorney advises university administration on issues such as federal research compliance, sponsored research contracting, general contract matters, risk management, privacy compliance, animal research, and public records laws.
Positions available: Attorney II (CP022) and Attorney III (CP059).

Required: Juris Doctor (JD) from an A.B.A.-accredited law school.
Preferred: Membership in the Wisconsin State Bar or ability to gain admission within one year of hire.
Full-time (100%), flexible for in-person, hybrid, or remote work. Remote candidates are considered.
12-month terminal appointment, with potential for extension or conversion.
Negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Includes comprehensive benefits and participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System.
