As a Unit Clerk, you will coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, tests, and consultations, serving as a central point of contact for staff, patients, families, and providers. This dynamic role requires strong organization and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • Office Administration Medical Diploma (2-year program) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with healthcare information systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

About the Role

The Unit Clerk provides clerical, administrative, and communication support to patient care units across KHSC. Working closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, you'll help coordinate patient admissions, transfers, discharges, testing, consultations, and other essential care activities.

This is a dynamic role that requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy healthcare environment.

What You'll Do
Support Patient Care Teams
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to clinical staff.
  • Assist with coordinating patient care activities and ensuring information is communicated efficiently.
  • Support smooth patient flow throughout the unit.
  • Prepare, process, and distribute patient documentation.
  • Maintain accurate patient charts, records, and health information.
  • Coordinate requisitions for diagnostic tests, procedures, and consultations.
  • Complete patient admission, transfer, and discharge documentation.
  • Coordinate services that support patient care, including transportation and dietary requests.
  • Assist with bed management communication and patient flow activities.
Communication & Coordination
  • Act as a key point of contact for staff, patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Liaise with physician offices, departments, and community partners.
  • Ensure timely communication of important patient and operational information.
Unit Operations
  • Prepare reports and support unit-based audits.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of office and clinical supplies.
  • Prepare clinic lists and support specialty clinic coordination.
  • Maintain attendance, utilization, and scheduling records as required.
