Job summary

Shared Health in Manitoba seeks a Unit Clerk to support patient care unit operations with clerical and receptionist duties. You will work under the supervision of the Manager, Health Services, and contribute to team-based care within the clinical setting.

The role requires completion of a Unit Clerk training program, high school completion, and medical terminology knowledge. In-person work with attention to PHIA/WHMIS policies is expected.

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school education as Manitoba Standards is required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.
  • Medical terminology knowledge is required.

Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the Manager, Health Services, the Unit Clerk acts as a member of the health care team, performing clerical, receptionist, and related duties as directed to support the operations of the patient care unit. The Unit Clerk demonstrates a commitment to the values, vision, goals, and objectives of the region/facility/unit.

Experience
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Completion of high school education, Manitoba Standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.
  • Medical terminology required.

  • Information and/or training will be provided within the probation period for the following:
    • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions).
    • Regional, site and unit policies and procedures.
    • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to function effectively in a stressful environment with frequent interruptions.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated individuals.
  • May encounter exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
