Job summary

Guelph General Hospital is seeking a Unit Attendant to support nursing staff by stocking, transporting supplies and patients, and assisting with turnover and room setup. The ICU role adds hospital-wide support across inpatient units.

Candidates should have hospital experience, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

  • WHMIS, Emergency Codes and Privacy Legislation knowledge required.
  • Completion or willingness to complete Smart Moves Program and Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning eLearning Course.
  • Experience working in a busy hospital environment and with following universal precautions.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work and exercise judgement independently, as well as to take direction and work collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physically capable of maneuvering and pushing stretchers with patients.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians.
  • Basic computer skills for online supplies ordering, checking work email etc.

Responsibilities

  • Stock and maintain supplies and equipment in all areas, ensuring availability.
  • Order supplies and transport supplies, equipment and patients within the department and hospital.
  • Assist with turnover, cleaning and setup of patient rooms.
  • Support ICU and hospital-wide inpatient units with services and staffing as needed.

Position Summary:

The Unit Attendant (UA) provides support services to the nursing staff by ensuring all areas are stocked and maintained with appropriate supplies and equipment, ordering supplies, and transporting supplies, equipment and patients both within the department and hospital wide, in a timely manner to accommodate efficient patient flow. The UA assists with the turnover, cleaning and set up of patient rooms.

The Unit Attendant in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) additionally provides services and support to hospital wide inpatient units.
