The Unit Aide assists and supports patients/clients in meeting their behavioral, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. As a member of the inter-professional team, the Unit Aide provides assistance with activities of daily living to patients/clients and supports the inter-professional healthcare team in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.


Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Completion of Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker Diploma/Certificate Program from an accredited institution
  • Registration with the Registry of Personal Support Workers (preferred)
  • One year of experience in a hospital/healthcare setting in a patient/client care support role (preferred)
  • Experience working with geriatric, palliative, and rehabilitation populations (preferred)
  • UFIRST / PIECES/ GPA Training (preferred)

Position Responsibilities

  • Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, toileting, showering, feeding, hair care, mouth care including dentures, shaving, dressing, and undressing under supervision of a regulated healthcare professional
  • Use proper body mechanics and transfer techniques as indicated on the Bedside Assessment
  • Collaborate with inter-professional team members to exchange information, contribute to care plans, and follow programs to ensure optimal health, safety, and comfort
  • Follow the inter-professional care plan to provide consistent and safe interactions with patients/clients
  • Assist with patient/client and family orientation to the unit
  • Document patient/client activities as per organizational policies and procedures
