Job Description

Position Purpose Summary: This role provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists in the ongoing retail operations of The Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Accountabilities

The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties:

  • Operations: Greet and interact with customers/donors positively and courteously; contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient customer service; be knowledgeable about product pricing and sales; maintain store opening/closing procedures; process transactions accurately; adhere to store policies; process donations; respond to customer inquiries; monitor store security; assist with store layout and merchandising; manage inventory; handle donations and stock rotation; ensure product quality and proper pricing; perform other duties as required.
  • Health and Safety: Contribute to safety by maintaining a clean and organized store environment; comply with OH&S regulations; perform cleaning and safety checks; assist with snow removal and obstacle clearance; maintain store appearance and safety standards.
Critical Relationship Management

Conduct routine interactions with internal staff (Store Manager, volunteers, staff) and external contacts (guests, vendors).

Managerial/Technical Responsibilities

Reports directly to the Store Manager; no direct reports.

Financial and Material Management

Moderate responsibilities; maintain organization assets; no financial transaction processing.

Working Conditions

Permanent part-time; variable schedule including weekdays and Saturdays; ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 30 pounds; follow health and safety protocols.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications
  • Willingness to support the mission of The Salvation Army.
  • Compliance with health and safety policies.
  • High school coursework or equivalent; experience in customer service or processing goods preferred.
Skills and Capabilities
  • Attention to detail; self-motivated; team player; good communication skills; physically capable of lifting and moving products.
Compensation
