Work Arrangements:

This role is primarily remote, with work from your home office. Occasional in-person attendance at our Waterloo, ON office or other locations within the Waterloo Region may be required. Sales roles may involve travel based on assignments.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team. This role involves risk assessment for life and critical illness products, playing a vital part in our success and offering a valuable opportunity to develop your skills within Waterloo Region’s top employers.

Responsibilities:
  1. Apply comprehensive underwriting expertise across medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
  2. Ensure high-quality work and meet service standards independently managing daily volumes.
  3. Deliver a first-class client experience.
  4. Comply with legal, regulatory, and reinsurance requirements related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
  5. Contribute to ongoing improvements in underwriting processes.
  6. Mentor and guide other underwriters, sharing your expertise.
Qualifications:
  1. Strong technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
  2. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment.
  3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Strong negotiation skills and reinsurance relationships.
  5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Proactive, service-oriented relationship skills.
  7. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in life and critical illness underwriting.
  8. FLMI / FALU designation or working towards it.
  9. Commitment to continuous learning and industry knowledge.
  10. Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
