The Role

The Senior Underwriter assesses risk for individual insurance lines, including life, critical illness, and medical disability. The role involves working closely with the field, providing training, support, and issue resolution. You will guide less experienced underwriters and participate in product, policy, and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze medical, financial, and personal information to categorize risks.
  • Assess complex applications and policy changes using product knowledge and guidelines.
  • Understand reinsurance impact and determine when to escalate cases.
  • Make high-level decisions aligned with company policies and standards.
  • Compile underwriting summaries on the Phoenix system for client requirements.
  • Collaborate with Distribution Management on complex cases and training.
  • Support advisors in processing their business accurately during sales periods.
  • Identify when to deviate from procedures or seek referrals for complex cases.

Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education with 2-3 years of relevant experience.

  • Proficiency in English; French is an asset, especially for non-Québec teams.
