Work Arrangements :

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. Occasionally, you may need to be in-person at our Waterloo, ON office or another location within the Waterloo Region, and sales roles may require travel.

The Opportunity :

Equitable is growing! We are seeking a Junior Underwriter to join our Individual Underwriting team. This role is vital to our success and offers a great opportunity to work at one of Waterloo Region’s Top Employers while developing your skills.

What you will be doing :
  1. Learning and applying critical thinking skills in underwriting, including medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
  2. Working both independently and as part of a team to provide a superior client experience.
  3. Ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
  4. Contributing to the continuous improvement of underwriting practices and procedures.
  5. Building internal and external relationships to deliver a first-class experience.
What you will bring :
  • Bilingual in French and English is an asset.
  • Bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese is also an asset.
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in a health or medical field.
  • Knowledge of Life and Health insurance products, with some underwriting experience preferred.
  • Adaptability to a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proactive, client-focused relationship skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning to stay current with medical and industry trends.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
