We're looking for an Underwriter to join our growing team in Toronto. This is a success-driven position with responsibilities including data management, analytical report preparation, ad-hoc benefit pricing, external system access, and resolution of client report and data requests. You will collaborate with various departments to meet reporting and data needs, support our student block management, and build strong partner relationships to enhance our industry reputation. This role is part of a larger integration within the Student Solutions division at People Corporation and may evolve as the team integrates further.
The Underwriter will :
- Review, analyze, and validate data from internal teams, market partners, and external stakeholders.
- Develop tracking systems for periodic raw data reports and ad-hoc client requests.
- Process raw data from market partners and prepare it for analysis.
- Create reports and presentations using Excel and PowerPoint.
- Conduct independent analysis to produce presentations on benefit coverage and market trends.
- Review insurance plans against raw data to identify patterns, anomalies, and trends for predictive modeling and plan adjustments.
- Research industry trends and demonstrate the use of database management tools to streamline reporting.
- Build and maintain relationships with external insurer and provider partners, acting as main contact for data collection and management.
- Work with internal teams to ensure data and client requirements are accurately reflected in reports.
- Collaborate with Communications to improve report templates and client products.
- Manage meetings with external stakeholders and handle communication regarding data and system issues.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to verify data accuracy and resolve system issues.
- Perform other duties as required.
To be successful as an Underwriter, you will need :
- A university degree in mathematics, finance, actuarial science, or 3+ years of underwriting experience.
- Active pursuit of or completion of CEBS certification is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills, including statistical modeling, forecasting, VBA, macros, and complex formulas.
- Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Access, Zoom, and Teams.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems and technologies.
- A positive attitude, resilience under pressure, and multitasking skills.
- Strong analytical skills, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; negotiation skills are a plus.
- Ability to build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized and adaptable to fast-paced environments, capable of working independently.

- Knowledge of domestic and international student plans and services for Canadian educational institutions.
- Familiarity with current industry fee guides, drug patent releases, and market trends.
- Understanding of inpatriate benefits and provincial healthcare guidelines for international students.
