Job description

Position Title: Utility Construction Laborer

Reports To: Foreman/Project Manager

Department: Field

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Belleville, MI

Job Summary:

We are seeking utility construction laborers to join our team! In this role, you will assist the foreman and team with installing and replacing underground utilities.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
  1. Perform manual labor tasks in utility installation, including digging trenches, backfilling, building and cleaning manholes, replacing concrete, installing and removing pipes, cleaning pipes, setting poles, and installing/removing conduit and cable, including splicing.
  2. Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to guide work activities.
  3. Follow safety procedures and report incidents appropriately.
  4. Drive vehicles to job sites, perform traffic control and flagging duties.
  5. Use hand tools to dig near existing underground utilities.
  6. Assist the line-up crew and welders as needed.
  7. Support repair, maintenance, and construction of gas pipelines.
Requirements:
  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred).
  • Satisfactory driving record (MVR check required).
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Pre-employment background screening clearance.
  • Team player attitude.
  • Hard-working, goal-oriented, and dedicated.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and in all weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift, squat, and stand for extended periods.
Compensation:

Union scale pay, currently $27.16/hour (including $4.00/hour vacation pay). CDL holders receive an additional $1.00/hour.
