Job description

Position Title: Utility Construction Laborer

Reports To: Foreman/Project Manager

Department: Field

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Location: Belleville, MI

Job Summary:

We are seeking utility construction laborers to join our team! As a utility construction laborer, you will assist the foreman and team with installing and replacing underground utilities. Experience in directional drilling/boring is preferred.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform manual labor tasks in utility installation, including digging trenches, backfilling, building manholes, and installing pipes.
  2. Operate and maintain drilling equipment and conduct measurements for efficiency.
  3. Install and splice conduit and cables, and perform demolition work as needed.
  4. Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications.
  5. Follow safety procedures and report incidents.
  6. Drive vehicles to job sites, manage traffic control, and flag as necessary.
  7. Use hand tools near underground utilities.
  8. Assist with line-up crew, welders, and repair/maintenance of pipelines.

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred).
  • Satisfactory driving record (MVR check required).
  • Pass pre-employment and random drug tests.
  • Pass background screening.
  • Team player with a dedicated, hardworking attitude.
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, squat, and stand for extended periods.

Compensation:

Union scale pay, currently $27.16/hour ($23.16 base + $4.00 vacation pay). CDL holders earn an additional $1.00/hour.
