Job summary

Thyssen Mining is seeking experienced Underground Supervisors to lead underground mining crews and ensure safe, productive operations across Canada. You will coordinate daily activities, mentor crews, and reinforce safety compliance while supporting production and development objectives.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in underground mining with supervisory experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of underground mining experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in underground mining preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license; site-specific certifications may be required.

Job description

Thyssen Mining is seeking experienced Underground Supervisors to lead underground mining crews and ensure safe, productive, and efficient operations. This role is responsible for coordinating daily mining activities, providing leadership to crews, maintaining safety compliance, and supporting production and development objectives.

The successful candidate will have a strong underground mining background, exceptional leadership abilities, and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, site procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, safety meetings, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure employees have the proper tools, equipment, and training to work safely.

Operational Oversight

  • Direct and supervise daily underground mining activities.
  • Line out crews and coordinate work assignments to achieve production and development objectives.
  • Monitor work quality and ensure activities are completed according to plan and design.
  • Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and resources to support operational requirements.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop underground personnel.
  • Foster positive employee relations and a high-performance team environment.
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Support workforce development and succession planning initiatives.

Production & Planning

  • Monitor production and development targets.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate with technical services, maintenance, and safety departments to ensure smooth operations.
  • Assist with shift planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Complete daily reports, production reports, and workplace inspections.
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
  • Report incidents, equipment issues, and operational concerns promptly.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of underground mining experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in underground mining operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to manage crews in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain site-specific certifications and clearances as required.
Preferred Experience

Experience supervising any of the following:

  • Development crews
  • Production crews
  • Long-hole operations
  • Jumbo operations
  • Bolting crews
  • Shaft or ramp development
  • Underground construction projects
