Job summary

New Gold is seeking an Underground Safety Advisor to promote and implement health and safety programs in an underground mine. The role reports to the Safety Superintendent and supports industrial hygiene management in a 7 on / 7 off (12-hour days) or 14 on / 14 off rotation.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of underground health and safety experience, strong knowledge of OHSA for Mines, and the ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders. CSRP or trainer accreditation is an asset.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of health and safety experience in underground mining.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants (underground).
• Experience in a Mine Rescue program is preferred.
• Train-the-Trainer certification and/or adult training accreditation is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement and convey health and safety procedures and assist Operations on SOP development.
• Develop underground programs and procedures and participate in risk assessments.
• Lead/participate in incident investigations and toolbox talks.
• Ensure alignment with Contractor Safety Program and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare reports and required health and safety documentation.
