Job summary

The Underground Geological Labourer at Coeur Mining’s Rainy River operation supports the geology team with sampling, core logging and diamond drilling assistance. This 12-month contract role involves 14/14 shift patterns, 12-hour days, and adherence to safety and environmental policies while collecting and documenting samples for analysis.

Previous experience is not required as on‑the‑job training will be provided, and preference will be given to residents of the Rainy River District.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions, workplace signage and established procedures.

  • Complete diamond drill core sampling and assist with other geological sampling activities.
  • Support geotechnical logging and the organization of drill core.
  • Label, document and prepare samples for analysis.
  • Transport samples to the assay laboratory while maintaining accurate sample records.
  • Enter geological and sampling information into designated databases and tracking systems.
  • Assist with sample preparation and other activities in the assay lab preparation area, as required.
  • Move, organize and store core boxes and related materials.
  • Maintain clean and organized geology work areas.
  • Perform other geology-related duties as assigned.

Rainy River
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About the Role

Schedule: Shift 14/14 – 12 hour days only

Position Reports To: Senior Geologist

Position Overview:

The Underground Geological Labourer supports Coeur’s Geology team with a range of activities, including sampling, sample preparation and diamond drilling support. All work must be completed in accordance with Coeur’s safety, environmental, operational and workplace policies and procedures.

This is a 12-month contract position with the potential for future permanent employment. Previous experience is not required, as on-the-job training will be provided.

Preference will be given to candidates who reside in the Rainy River District. Please note that travel assistance and camp accommodations are not provided for this position.

Working Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a mining environment and may involve exposure to noise, dust, uneven terrain and varying temperatures.
  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting and safely move drill core boxes and other materials.
  • Ability to complete physically demanding tasks throughout the shift.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment and comply with all site safety procedures.

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $ $58,000 to $61,000.
