Job description

Turnaround Cost Engineer (Long‑Term Contract | Multi‑Year LNG Megaproject)
Opportunity Overview

This is a chance to step into a multi‑year LNG megaproject — one of the largest and most complex industrial developments in Canada — supporting major Turnaround events that directly impact asset reliability, operational readiness, and long‑term facility performance.

As a Turnaround Cost Engineer, you’ll be embedded in a high‑performance Turnaround organization, working alongside seasoned execution, planning, procurement, and financial professionals. You’ll influence cost strategy, shape execution readiness, and help drive disciplined financial performance across multi‑million‑dollar scopes.

This is a long‑term contract, local position, Monday–Friday, supporting a stable, multi‑year project environment. Not a rotation role.

Role Purpose

The Turnaround Cost Engineer provides accurate, timely, and consistent cost control, forecasting, and reporting throughout all phases of Turnaround planning and execution. The role ensures cost transparency, financial discipline, and reliable delivery of major maintenance events within a large‑scale LNG asset.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Cost estimating — develop and maintain phase‑appropriate estimates for Turnaround scopes.
  • Track actuals, commitments, accruals, and variances throughout execution.
  • Manage purchase orders, work orders, commitments, and invoice validation within SAP.
  • Build and maintain cost dashboards and routine reporting packages.
  • Support contingency planning, drawdown tracking, and cost risk analysis.
  • Interface with contractors to validate progress, cost performance, and forecast accuracy.
  • Lead cost close‑out activities including reconciliation, documentation, and performance capture.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of cost control processes and reporting standards.
Key Accountabilities
  • Provide day‑to‑day guidance and technical coaching to junior cost control personnel.
  • Support onboarding, knowledge transfer, and capability development.
  • Promote a learning culture through lessons learned and standard work practices.
  • Demonstrate strong “One Team” behaviours across site and contractor groups.
  • Apply disciplined cost controls that support safe execution.
  • Ensure compliance with financial, assurance, and cost management requirements.
  • Identify and elevate cost risks, trends, and control gaps early.
Stakeholder & Interface Management
  • Align scope, schedule, and cost with Turnaround and Maintenance teams.
  • Partner with Procurement on RFQs, bid evaluations, and invoice audits.
  • Communicate cost performance clearly to site stakeholders.
  • Deliver accurate cost forecasts, accruals, and cash flow profiles.
  • Track commitments, value of work done, and earned value metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with SAP and cost management standards.
  • Support business planning and budget assurance activities.
