Job summary

GHD is seeking a Tunnel Engineer to join our Vancouver team. You will contribute to tunnel and underground projects, including shafts and linings, utilising PLAXIS, FLAC, and Rocscience. You’ll work with senior staff on design and data analysis, preparing reports and proposals while engaging with clients.

The role requires at least 4 years in tunnel/underground work, strong numerical skills, and experience with ground conditions and TBMs. Vancouver-based position with Canadian project scope.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 4 years working on tunnel and underground projects within tunnel design or construction teams.
• Ability to design deep shaft & shoring structures.
• Experience in the design of tunnels in soft ground and transit underground support of structures.
• Confident with analytical and numerical analysis methods and the ability to work with various industry-standard geotechnical software packages (PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience, etc.).
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of the different tunnelling & shaft construction methods, logistics, equipment, and methodology selection.
• Experience in calculating tunnel-induced settlement, including analysis of damage to adjacent infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Assist with project work within GHD’s Rail and Transportation business and support other tunnelling projects across Canada or internationally, as opportunities present.
• Assist in responding to technical and administrative tasks associated with the development of tunnels and stations.
• Carry out analysis as directed by senior members of the team for tunnel liners and shaft design using PLAXIS, FLAC, Rocscience, etc.
• Prepare tunnel reports and provide input to the tunnel component of proposals.
• Attend client meetings along with a supervisor.
• Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools, methods, and formats.
